This latest rumor comes courtesy of Hebrew-language site The Verifier and YouTube channel iUpdate. According to their sources, watchOS 7 may drop support for the Apple Watch Series 2 but add a whole lot of features to compatible watches such as sleep monitoring and blood oxygen sensing. Apple also may improve Siri to “allow it to do more extension operations.”
Most of the changes in the Watch Series 6 will be under the hood with no external design changes expected in the next generation watch.
Apple may add support for 5G LTE and Wi-Fi 6 along with a bigger battery to aid in overnight sleep tracking.
The Apple Watch Series 6 may see a Touch ID-enabled Digital Crown, while the Series 7 in 2021 could have a Touch ID fingerprint sensor embedded into the display.
The Verifier and iUpdate have a spotty track record, so take this report with a grain of salt. Some of these features, like sleep monitoring and blood oxygen sensing, have been floating around for a while.
Apple reportedly is planning to unveil watchOS 7 during WWDC 2020. We likely will have to wait until the fall to learn more about the new Apple Watch Series 6 hardware.
