Samsung has announced the Galaxy Tab S, the latest in the popular line that the company hopes will take a big chunk out of Apple’s iPad market. The biggest boast? A display that is the highest definition on the market.
For the last several years Samsung has been focusing on providing better and better display options in all of their products. Even their less costly models (though still expensive) offer high definition screens that tend to bully other makers into upping their own HD.
The Galaxy Tab S is the latest to use this feature to sweeten the deal. At a full 2560 x 1600, this 8.4″ or 10.5″ Super AMOLED screen is the highest end to be released onto the market. The fact that it was Samsung who did it is no surprise.
However, even with an incredible resolution and what is sure to be an impressive PPI rate, this single feature won’t be enough to push it past the popularity of the dominating iPad. What else have they got?
Tech Specs
Under the hood there are two options available to consumers. One is the Exynos 5 Octa (1.9 GHz QuadCore and 1.3 GHz Quadcore) combo, and the second is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 2.3 GHz Quad-core. Both will make for a pretty powerful tablet with enough juice to back up those graphic upgrades.
It also has a full 3 GB or RAM, unlike the many brands that only give their tablets up to 2 GB of RAM, and so essentially turning it into a very large smartphone. Put that against the iPad Air, which only has a measly 1 GB, and you can see the difference.
Storage is what consumers will have come to expect from the company. The Galaxy Tab S will have a 16 and 32 GB option available, with microSD expansion to up to 128 GB.
It runs KitKat, so if you like Android you should be happy with this release. Not that you would expect otherwise from Samsung, which has always run Android platforms and will continue to do so. No one is holding their breath for a viable, functional, fully Samsung run mobile OS, I am guessing. They have always done better with hardware.
From what can be seen, the ultra-thin, super high definition Galaxy Tab S looks like an amazing tablet. The cost for such high tech isn’t bad, either: the 8.4″ is $399, and the 10.5″ is $499. If you need a tablet for whatever reason, and you want to go high end, you could do a lot worst on the price tag.
