Do you use multiple mobile payment options?

There are some elements of the technology industry that I don’t really adopt all that quickly. Or, despite a number of efforts, still can’t find a reason to justify owning. Tablets used to be in that category, but I’m starting to leave my laptop at home more now, so I’m finding reasons to carry a tablet.

Wearables on the other hand are one category that, no matter how hard I try, I just can’t find a reason to own one. I know I’m going to keep trying, and maybe one day one of them will surprise me, but right now it’s just not looking like it’s going to happen.

But then sometimes something you didn’t think was going to be all that interesting suddenly becomes the norm.

Mobile payments are that for me now. When Apple Pay launched, it seemed enticing enough, and I figured I’d check it out. But I live in a pretty average sized city, and adoption from businessesand restaurants wasn’t a big deal around here. It took some time. But now that shops have finally caught on, I feel like I’ve adopted the methodology into my life without really realizing it.

Which is probably the best way it’s supposed to happen, right?

Still, there are places here that don’t accept mobile payments at all, or shops that only support some mobile payments and not others. Which is, admittedly, a pain, but we’re all accustomed to format wars at this point, and platform wars are just one of many.

But with so many companies, from smartphone manufacturers to big box retailers like Walmart, launching their own mobile payment options, it’s a lot for consumers to consider. And for anyone that might not want to use their physical debit/credit card –especially because chip technologyis the worst– having multiple mobile payment options on their phone seems to be the best bet at this point.

So my question to you is: Do you do this? Are you someone who has adopted using multiple mobile payment platforms, just so you can avoid using your physical cards? Or, even if you don’t care one way or another about using your card, do you just prefer mobile payment options to the point of where you’ll use as many as necessary? Do you use mobile payments in a drive-thru? Let me know!
